The California Land Conservancy has conducted its activities primarily within Riverside and Orange Counties. Most of the conservation in these counties is conducted by government organizations. In these circumstances, CLC provides a facilitation role, a ownership of fee title or conservation easements by a non-profit entity is not necessary. Examples of CLC’s facilitation are described below.
This is a one acre remnant parcel of a 149 acre property located in Trabuco Canyon on Live Oak Canyon Road. The other acreage was acquired by the State of California in two phases and by OCTA for the last acquisition of 48 acres. A record of survey and map has been recorded providing compliance with Orange County Surveyor requirements. Habitat of the 149 acre property includes Coastal Sage Scrub, Oak Woodland and riparian habitat. The remainder parcel is located along the frontage of Live Oak Canyon Road and is primarily disturbed habitat with some California Oak Woodland
When a significant population of Tri-Colored Blackbirds nested in agricultural crops that were to be harvested before fledglings could mature and wildlife laws could not provide protection, CLC provided funding and conducted fundraising events to help compensate the farmer for damages to his crop.
CLC participates as a member of a statewide coalition of the California Habitat Conservation Plan Coalition including government agencies, NGOs and private organizations who support funding for multispecies planning efforts throughout California.
CLC facilitated the conservation of more than 400 acres within the Foothill Trabuco area of Orange County from 2009 to 2011 representing a consortium of five landownerships. This conservation area provided an essential linkage between the Irvine Company’s sponsored Central Orange County Natural Communities Conservation Plan and lands conserved in the South Orange County Habitat Conservation Plan.
From May 2009 to February 2011, CLC provided facilitation in the conservation approvals by the California Department of Fish and Game Wildlife Conservation Board acquisition of the Greenwald LLC property located in Lake Elsinore at an approximate purchase price of $1,470,000.
CLC provided funding in the Spring of 2013 to initiate vernal pool and species surveys as needed to facilitate a 900+ acre preserve in a cooperative effort with the City of Hemet, Western Riverside County Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan Regional Conservation Authority (RCA) and affected landowners.
